Sorry, I don't like either Richard Gere OR Julia Roberts. I don't even know why I saw this movie except I was dragged to see it. The only movieI I half way enjoyed Richard Gere in was An Officer and A Gentleman and the only Julia Roberts movie I liked was Erin Brockovich (and sort of in Conspiracy Theory). Lame story line, weak acting, WAY too much estrogen for my taste. This was a definite "chick flick" which in and of itself isn't necessarily bad (there's LOTS of chick flicks I like. This, however, I'm afraid isn't one of them). I gave it only one star, because watching it with the right person, it is moderately tolerable. It has a lame and unbelievable storyline broken up with some lighthearted moments. All in all, it was a waste of money (yes, I was dumb enough to pay full price at the cinema to go see it with my girlfriend). It is not one I'd care to see again UNLESS I was with someone I cared a LOT about who wanted to see it (The key phrase here is ALOT!!). (show less)

If you don't like romance, don't watch it! The story might not be the most plausible story in the world (a hooker and a millionaire setting up house together? really?) but it works in this movie in how it's presented. If you don't like romance, don't watch it! The story might not be the most plausible story in the world (a hooker and a millionaire setting up house together? really?) but it works in this movie in how it's presented. The soundtrack is brilliant, but by now most of us know those songs or are familiar with them. I do like how Edward learns to relax and overall becomes a better person, though I think it might have happened just a little too fast (though some would also argue that he was always a good person from the start, his "goodness" was just a little buried). Julia Roberts was great in this role, as was Richard Gere, who makes a very dashing and debonair millionaire. Highly Recommend. (show less)

  A minor classic of sorts, the premise is, well, maybe not deplorable, but sertainly odd... Fun loving prostitute (or whore) meets rich guy who needs to be taught how to have fun. They get busy and get together.

  Well, not exactly, but that's how I would have reacted if I read the script, which makes the film quite brave in a way. Consider the fact that this is a Disney (Touchstone) movie, it shows, I think, that you could get away with more back in the 70s and 80s (even very late 80s as thi... (show more)

Consider the fact that this is a Disney (Touchstone) movie, it shows, I think, that you could get away with more back in the 70s and 80s (even very late 80s as this was released in 1990) than you can now.

  It's all mostly sweet and innocent, and Julia Roberts is of course to die for. Here she trademarked her insanly broad smile, and infectious laugh to the whole World. Never mind that it's not her body in some of the shots, body doubles need work too!
