The biggest news in movies for the week comes all the way from the magical school of Hogwarts. The sixth installment of J.K. Rowling's epic Harry Potter series was released at midnight on July 15th to massive crowds of people dressed to look like their favorite character. Since not even Br'no's inappropriate antics can match the excitement of a good expecto patronum spell, this week will be all Harry Potter.
LivingSocial reviewer Angela admits that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, "started my Harry Potter obsession," and that after she watched it her days, "consisted of sitting in class wondering what Harry was going to do next." Obsession is right, but can you blame her? Taking that one step further, Rihi says, "Harry Potter movies are what I live for!" We're guessing life must be pretty good for her right now, then!
As Harry ages, his life become more dangerous and the movies reflect this with an increasingly dark feel. This really comes out in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Harry is thrown into the Tri-Wizard tournament and Voldemort makes his return. A fan of this darker turn, Grant says, "the reincarnation of Harry's sworn enemy makes the film and the series take a turn for the darker, and better." Even those who don't love the darkness still love this movie though. Paola's favorite part is the Yule Ball scene, which she describes as, "simply breath-taking."
None of us here at LivingSocial made it out to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this morning because we had to be here early to write about it, but we're glad to see that work in the morning didn't stop some of you from braving the night to see this film at midnight; the reviews are already starting to come in. According to Judi it was "brilliant and beautifully shot," while Brian adds that it was the "best Potter movie so far." In LivingSocialites we trust, and it sounds like this movie is worth our 12 bucks! We were also pretty stoked about finding the first five Harry Potter movies on DVD at a huge discount for 1-day only on Amazon. Perhaps we'll brush up on the first five and then head out to see Half Blood Prince this weekend! Think you'll do the same?
